Simply Sports, what a great name, super original too. All my life, I dreamed of being a content creator. I always wanted to have something that was memorable that I started, something like when you hear Dick Vitale say "that's ridiculous baby" in Cameron Indoor Stadium, or hearing Mike Breen scream "BANG!" as Ray Allen forces the 2013 NBA finals into overtime. I always wanted to be somebody who was recognizable in the sports world. Growing up being an average (some would say below average) athlete, and loving and trying basically every sport known to man made it difficult for me to become that somebody.
I never walked away from sports because I didn't try, but put simply, there is only so much opportunity that you have as 5'8" kid with (below) average talent. Shit, any kid in my hometown had a similar resume when it came to height, weight, and sports IQ/ability.
So what do I tell you all of that for? As I grew up loving sports, I loved something else just as much, it wasn't just the flashy plays on TV, or watching the "Top 10" every morning that kept me coming back every night for more, but damn did I love reading about sports, and hearing commentators use words that we don't hear anywhere else (when is the last time you heard anyone say "BOOMSHAKALAKA" when they were talking about accounting?) I write this blog as my newest hobby. I have always wanted to start my own blog, and that all started because of a website that we have all heard of, Barstool Sports.
Now Barstool will probably get mentioned on here time and time and time and time again due to the fact that I have been a HUGE Stoolie the last 5 or 6 years of my life, and that I have helped run "Barstool Pokes" for the past year or so... so as much as you will hear about Barstool, it is fair, because I am basically Clark Griswold in "Christmas Vacation". I am absolutely nothing important to anyone @ Barstool HQ... but I'm important to myself and my family. In the end, I think that is why I am starting this blog in the first place, because I might see a future at a sports writing company. Deciding between the Business School and the Journalism School was a difficult choice when I had first come to college, but all throughout high school I took marketing/business classes, so it ended up that is where my love was, but hey if this blog turns out, it very well maybe my application for Barstool Sports someday.
Lastly, someday I'm going to look back at this first post, March 28, 2020, and before I read this sentence, my spine will tingle with the memory of this Godforsaken corona virus. Something you'll learn about me is that I like to take everything in life and try to look at it "glass half-full". So, although COVID19 has taken away the rest of my 4th semester at Oklahoma State, it has taken away sports as we know it for the time being, it has taken away the access of the outside world. However, COVID19 has brought some decent things to me on an individual level. One, I get to spend the next month (hopefully not more than that) locked up in my house with my family, two, I get to catch up on all the social media I could ever want, and three, I finally get to start this blog. (My goal is to post minimum a couple of times per week, so stay tuned.)
Now, this first post is getting quite lengthy, and I'm not short-of-breath when it comes to any subject, but I just want to leave you with what you can expect from this blog: your going to hear a lot about sports, probably Barstool sports, you'll hear about my life, my adventures, probably some weightlifting, and lastly, you'll hear about more sports.
As my great grandmother always told me - "WASH-A-U-HAND, BELLO"
