Whether you had heard of him or not before the EURO 2020 competition, a name you're going to remember for decades, if not centuries is Leonardo Bonucci.
As one of two remaining Azzurri players who competed in the EURO 2012 competition, where Italy lost to Spain in the final, the win had to mean that much more to Leonardo. And it came in great fashion. As the match ended, Bonucci was running around Wembley declaring, "Pasta! We need more pasta!". Similarly, he eradicated the "Football is coming home chants" by grabbing the nearest camera and repeating a popular phrase that all Italian fans were reciting to troll the English.
After the match, Bonucci showed no fatigue, as he complimented his Heineken with Coca Cola. He proved he was the true champion, putting beer before the liquor that was certain to come later in the night. He sat back in his chair, and the partying for that night wasn't going to be stopped by a post game pressor.
"They thought it was staying here in London, and [now] they're unhappy. I feel bad for them, but once again Italy has given them a lesson" was Bonucci's response to one of the questions in the press conference. Thats what we Italians do, we teach lessons. Me, not so many, but Italians who are good at things, they do teach lessons.
Not only did he score the only goal of regular time for the Italian side, but he converted his penalties in both the SemiFinal and Final. His PEN in the final ended up being the deciding factor in the match (sorry to say it, England fans).
So, as an athlete, as a teacher, as an Italian, and as a footballer, Leonardo Bonucci wrote history yesterday afternoon and it surely won't be forgotten by anyone... especially not the English.
