Black Lives Matter

It has been a while to get some actually worthy sports news. Other than The Bundesliga returning to action a few weeks ago, a couple of golf events, and hearing that American sports are to return (RIP Baseball), not much has happened in the last couple of weeks in the sports world. In a broad scope, the attention that we had on COVID-19 also has shifted to an even more serious topic: police brutality. Thankfully, where I am in Colorado hasn't had many spikes in Corona Virus cases since we have started to slowly open things back up, but Protesting has most definitely come to the forefront of all social media platforms.

I originally chose not to speak much on this topic. Who am I to say how someone else should feel about something? I might be the least credible source on the planet. I am a white male who comes from an affluent town that only has "champagne problems". However, last week, there was an Episode of "Pardon My Take," which is my favorite podcast hosted by @BarstoolBigCat and @PFTCommenter that opened my eyes up a lot more on the issue. I HIGHLY recommend this episode: They had Arian Foster on their show and had a conversation on what they can do in order to help the movement. PFT and Big Cat have the same problems that I do: they are white males who haven't had to directly face racism as a threat. In short, not only from Arian Foster, but from many athletes of color, writers of color, bloggers of color, and overall people of color I have heard one very consistent thing: "don't be silent". I haven't said as much as I would like to, but today, I finally found the exact words that helped me on describing the issue of race in our country.

I watched the Bruce Lee 30 for 30, "Be Water." It is one of the best 30 for 30 Episodes to date and came out yesterday. Hidden in that hour and a half, Bruce Lee gets asked "Do you still think about yourself as Chinese, or do you think about yourself as a North American?" Bruce Lee responds: "You know what I want to think of myself as? As a human being."

That sums it up perfectly. Black, white, Asian, or European, none of that matters. We are all one race, and that is the human race. Maybe we look different, but we most definitely are all made equally human. Friends and family, I encourage you to keep standing with one fist raised up to support people of color in this country. Keep signings petitions. Keep being there for one another. Keep being human!
