Army. Navy.

I wish I was bad ass enough to serve in the military. I might have the discipline, but I am much too soft to actually endure everything that a Cadet or a Midshipman might go through. The Army Navy football game is an event that I look forward to every year. It is normally a neutral site and the only game of the day, but this year being that weird coronavirus year, we get Army Navy a bit earlier than normal. The GameDay experience is no doubt different from campus to campus, but it must feel unbelievable to attend an Army Navy game as a student, let alone to actually play in the game. It doesn't matter if one team is terrible and the other is great, it is one of the strongest rivalries in sports and something everyone looks forward to every year.

I am known to be a huge proponent of hating ESPN's G-Rated, try-hard social media, however, something that ESPN most definitely does right are the stories they tell on College GameDay every Saturday in the late fall and early winter before the College Football slate begins.

This week they told a story of a 100-year-old Navy Veteran. He shares his experience of the last Army/Navy game played not at a neutral site 77 years ago.

If there is something that I love as much as sports, it is hearing stories. Stories like Mr. Gillooly's story of fighting in World War II are incredible. It is amazing to hear a man who is 100 years old retell a story that happened to him over 75 years ago.

Although this blog is short, I wanted to share the story of Mr. Jack Gillooly to everyone who didn't get to see it on GameDay this morning. And to all the Veterans, no matter who you are rooting for this afternoon, something we don't tell you all enough, is Thank You for your service!
